We won! Worksafe Weld 20 was awarded "Best working environment product 2012"!!

We won - Weld 20 won the nomination for "Best working environment product". The picture below is from the prize ceremony at the WorkingLife conference, helt at Stockholm Waterfront Congress Centre on the 17th of October 2012, where we (Tina Jurén and Michael Gustafsson) received the nomination.

Svetshandsken Worksafe Weld 20 från Procurator vann tävlingen om årets arbetsmiljöprodukt. Priset delades ut på arbetslivsdagen WorkingLife 2012, som arrangeras av Arbetsmiljöforum och Du&jobbet.

Svetshandsken segrade med följande motivering: ”För kombinationen skydd och bättre ergonomi. Handsken både skyddar och minskar belastningen. Svetskabeln löper inuti manschetten vilket gör att svetsaren inte behöver hålla så hårt i verktyget.”

Vinnaren utsågs av en jury bestående av Torben Vincentsen, projektledare på Arbetsmiljöverket, Ghazal Voghoui, VD för Branschföreningen BPS, Kaj Fick, professor emeritus, samt Jan Enqvist, Du&jobbets produktredaktör. Kriterierna för utvalda produkter var bl a nytänkande och att produkten löser ett problem som antingen är allvarligt eller berör många.

Andra pris gick till den mobila ögonduschen, Plum Duo, från Plum A/S. Motivering: Nytänkande utveckling på etablerat område. Det går att skölja båda ögonen och det är lättare att hålla ögonen öppna.

Tredje pris gick till visirhjälmen SR 580, från Sundström Safety AB. Motivering: Helhetstänkandet. Hjälm kombinerad med visir som kan fungera som andningsskydd och kombineras med hörselskydd.

Hedersomnämnden gick till:

• Penclic Mouse R2 för trådlös datormus som ser ut som en penna.
• Kemskyddshandsken Suvachem för allsidigt kemskydd. Honeywell Safety Products.
• Skyddsskon JALAS 3010 Zenit, Ejendals, för ny teknik för stötdämpning.
• Skyddsskon Sievi Spike, Sievi med in – och utfällbara dubbar.

ABC fällt i granskningsnämnden för inslag om hoppselen

Den 16 november 2011 sände SVT inslag i regionala nyhetsprogrammet ABC. Inslaget innehöll en rad felaktigheter, varför jag bad SVT att publicera en rättelse. Då SVT inte såg skäl till det, trots att uppgifterna var osanna, tvingades jag göra en anmälan.

Granskningsnämnden fällde ABC för bristade opartiskhet, bristade saklighet och för att inte ha sänt ett beriktigande.

I just received news from Agneta Hammarlund of Procurator, that the magazine Du&Jobbet has nominated seven products for "Best Working Environment Product". This the first time the award is handed out.

The product is fixed to the welding tool and protects against splatter and sparks as well as against heat, wind, cold and wetness. The idea is lesser load, one can work easier with a thinner glove. The cable passes through the cuff and and the welder doesn't have to grip the welding tool as hard. The jury's comment: New thinking in an important area.

The jury, consisting of Jan Enqvist, Product editor of Du&jobbet, Kaj Frick, professor emeritus, Ghazal Voghoui, CEO of BPS (Organisation of Personal Protective Equipment Manufacturers), Torben Vincentsen, Project Manager at Arbetsmiljöverket (Swedish Work Environment Authority) and Eva Berlin, Chief editor of Du&jobbet magazine, have nominated seven products of all submitted entries for the second round of the competition. Among the criteria: degree of innovativeness and that the product solves a problem that either is serious or affects many. The other nominated products are shoes from Sievi and Ejendahls, an ergonomic mouse from Penclic, combined helmet and visor from Sundströms, chemgloves from Honeywell and a double eyeshower from Plum. It's an honor to be in such company.

Rättelse i NVP

Under 2011 publicerade NVP ett antal felaktigheter i en artikelserie om hoppselen i Älta Ishall. Den första artikelns fel bemötte jag i ett inlägg, resten var mestadels upprepanden samma fel. Därför bemötte jag aldrig dem.

I NVPs årssammanställning 2011 publicerade NVP än en gång tramset om att "kommunen gett bort rättigheterna" till hoppselen. Det är trams av den enkla anledningen att man inte kan ge bort något man inte äger, även om man nu inbillar sig att man gör det. Märkligt i sammanhanget är att NVP gjort såpass dålig faktaresearch och uppföljning av artiklarna att man envisades med att hävda detta.

Lagrummet som reglerar rättigheterna till innovationen är LAU (Lagen om rätt till arbetstagares uppfinning), då SKL (Sveriges Kommuner och Landsting) inte skrivit på Uppfinnaravtalet. Enligt LAU är detta en tjänsteuppfinning och arbetsgivaren har därmed rätt till en enkel licens (rätt att nyttja för eget bruk) men även skyldighet att ersätta uppfinnaren för denna. Rätten till innovationen i sin helhet - utanför sitt eget verksamhetsområde - måste arbetsgivaren förvärva aktivt, man skall anmäla sitt intresse inom fyra månader till arbetstagaren.

Som jag tidigare nämnde så skrev jag och min arbetsgivare ett nyttjanderättsavtal, där jag på eget initiativ avstod från rätten till ersättning för att slippa diskussioner om saken och där Nacka kommuns rätt till en enkel licens stadfästes. I avtalet fick Nacka kommun vad som tillkom dem enligt lag, samt att jag avstod från lagenlig rätt till ersättning utbyte mot att Nacka kommun skulle namnge mig som innovatör i media. Inte så tokig deal för arbetsgivaren, kan tyckas.

Därför blev det rätt tröttsamt när NVP ständigt envisades med att hävda att man "gett bort uppfinningen" när kommunen fått vad som den tillkommit och mer därtill. När NVP gjorde sin årssammanställning över 2011 kunde man inte heller då hålla sig till fakta, och upprepade detta en gång till. Denna gång tog tydligen kommunens pressansvarige Sam Carlsson kontakt med NVP för en rättelse, vilken publicerades 10 januari 2012, sidan 10:

NACKA I årssammanfattningen i förra veckans NVP stod det felaktigt att Nacka kommun gav bort rätten till den hoppsele som en anställd uppfunnit. Rätt är att kommunen inte gjorde anspråk på rättigheterna till selen.

Well thought-through welding cuff from Worksafe

Tired of improvising welding protection made from pan-holders and barbequemittens? A better solution is the Swedish welding cuff Worksafe Weld 20, which encloses both hand and electrode holder while at the same time taking up the weight of the welding cable and transferring the load from the hand to the lower arm. En bättre lösning är den svenska svetsmanschetten Worksafe Weld 20, som omsluter såväl näve som elektrodhållare, samtidigt som den bär upp svetskabeln och därmed flyttar vikten från handen till underarmen. Feedback from Kalevi Tiurinen, first user of Weld 20

I asked Kalevi Tiurinen about his experiences with the Weld 20 - he tested the very first rough prototype, the final prototype and the first examples of the production version (he hasn't worn it out yet).

Kalevi said that for the work he's been doing (tank welding, erection work, rough shop welding) the best use has been when doing vertical and overhead work, especially with heavy wire electrode welding (GMAW) and lots of molten spray. The shape of the Weld 20 lets the slag roll and bounce off, since there are no nooks and crevices (such as between palm and tool, or between fingers) where the slag can get caught and burn through. Also, the Weld 20 is long enough to keep wrist and forearms free from burns.

The other major benefit in Kalevis experience was being able to have a thinner glove underneath - both for dexterity, comfort and warmth. Dexterity and comfort for all kinds of work, warmth since having a thinner glove inside the Weld 20 means insulation both against heat and cold weather.

Kalevi and his crew of four welders first used the final prototype for outdoor erection works at Mönsterås Paper Mill in the rainy summer and fall of 2010 and in Jönköping during the cold and snowy winter of 2010/2011.

"Terrific. Double gloves with a little air inbetween, a lot warmer. Much better than other winters - one can just leave the Weld 20 on the electrode holder, take a coffee break and come out again. Always a warm and dry glove on your hand underneath the outer glove. Now it's always in our equipment container."

I asked him what his crew thought about the Weld 20: "Excellent." Since, he's used it for indoor erection work as well.

Kalevi is off on sick leave since this summer, trying to rehabilitate a worn out shoulder. Personally I hope that the improved ergonomics of the Weld 20 will help coming generations of welders to not have to quit because of injuries and pain.
